it took me a while to get my own computer or console. friends of mine had a commodore 64 and amiga. my family didn't even have a tv. i played mortal kombat, termiator and the likes on public arcade consoles. at about 15 i got a sega game gear with sonic the hedgehog, mortal combat etc. a witness friend of mine got a 486 pc (turbo!) and a nes, another one had a snes system. we played super mario kart, zelda (of course), civilization, colonization, populous, powermonger, warcraft/warcraft II on the pc and what not... later i got my own computer and installed emulators for the old systems. also a n64 emulator, played zelda there too. i played counter strike and empire earth lans with my younger witness friends for a long time (most of them quit due to conscience issues over time). later i got into world of warcraft with a few of them and even infected my wife who is still playing, although i've gone years without it. got a ps3 and played loads of uncharted, resistance, gta, cod and whatever else. now my little boy is taking over the ps3, so i got a steam account and play some civilization every now and then.

Why should this annoy me?
by punkofnice inlong story short.
i left the wbt$ and was forcibly da'd for attending a church.. wifey says she 'chooses' not to talk to me about 'spiritual'(tm) matters.
i told wifey that she didn't 'choose' but was told not to talk to me about such matters by some men in brooklyn.

Birthdays & Christmas
by Rattigan350 inwhat is the deal with people criticizing jws because they don't celebrate birthdays or christmas?.
it is as if when someone is born, from a baby, to a child, teen, adult; that one has a responsiblity to celebrate christmas (and i thought it was a free country); and others have a responsiblity to celebrate others' anniversary of one's birth.. i don't get the criticisms as if celebrating either is a great thing and the not celebrating is a bad thing.. data on star trek said that he does not understand why people celebrate their birthdays - a day one can not possibly remember.. what are you actually celebrating?
the fact that you made it another year?

rattigan, you're a bit confused. people don't critizise JWs for not celebrating birthdays and holidays, people critizise JWs for not allowing their members to celebrate anything like that. i don't care for xmas either, as i grew up a JW and just never got into it and i can to some extent follow their line of reasoning regarding xmas. but the ban of birthday celebrations is utter nonsense, i never understood it and it's something i did miss out on. even when still a JW, me and the other youngsters would start celebrating birthdays in some form. of course noone of the elders knew about this.
celebrating something is nice. it's fun. it's social. try it.

Should Jehovah's Witnesses be added to the Wikipedia article on Doomsday Cults?
by jwfacts inthere is discussion of doomsday cults at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/doomsday_cult, and much of it aligns closely with watchtower predictions and behaviour, so i was wondering why jehovah's witnesses are not mentioned.
here are some quotes from the article:.
doomsday cult is an expression used to describe groups who believe in apocalypticism and millenarianism, and can refer both to groups that prophesy catastrophe and destruction, and to those that attempt to bring it about.
